Kung fu photos from Varberg, Sweden

I came back from Sweden the day before yesterday late after having spent a long weekend on the west coast of Sweden for the FWC Competition. We arrived in Varberg on Friday and all the competition events were on Saturday. I won two gold medals; one in heavy weight semi contact sparring and one for suan yang (t'ai chi).

After the events we all went down on the town to have a wonderful dinner. A few of us actually went for a quick swim in the sea as we came back to the youth hostel.

Both the whole Sunday and the whole Monday was spent in Gothenburg. On the first day we went to Liseberg and on the next day we went to Universeum which has a really cool webcam of the shark tank

Anyway, here are some photos that I have uploaded:

One Billion Is Big

SquareOneTV is some sort of kids tv show from the 80's that aimed to entertain and teach kids about math. I never watched it as a kid because it was probably never aired in Sweden. Shame.

The funniest thing on their website got to be the video clips. Be sure not to miss the "One Billion is Big" by "The Fat Boys". Really made me laugh.

Corp Calendar 0.0.5

index_html-small.jpg Yesterday we at Fry-IT Ltd. released our little Corporate Calendar application. It's nothing spectacular but it works and does the job for us. We use it on our intranet. It's Open Source under the ZPL license.

Admittedly it's not as advanced as Yahoo! Calendar but at least it's free and simpler. There are some functions we might want to add such as setting the hour separately from the date and having a field for the location, but that's for the future.

This application also uses my CheckoutableTemplates which means that the templates can easily be modified on a instance basis.

Different phone, same number

Finally I got my phone working. This time it's a Sony-Ericsson T610.

Fortunately I get to keep my old number but I've lost all my contacts so I probably don't have your number anymore, so please text me and I'll be able to save it to my new baby-fresh phone book.

I haven't explored the phone very much yet but actually I haven't been able to figure out how to send text messages. When I click the Messaging menu item and then select Text I get three options: Inbox, Options, SMS Memory. Inbox can't be pressed because there's nothing in there. When I pressed Options nothing happens and it seems to stall a little bit. SMS Memory just shows how much space I have left on the memory.

Accessible Pop-Up script

HTML isn't what it used to be. ...2 years ago. Back then you could through in Javascripts, style tags and form tags all of the place and we did not care if the HTML was valid or not. What mattered was that it worked in Internet Explorer and Netscape. That's no longer the case. Now it needs to work and be correct. Actually you only make sure it's correct and then it will [hopefully] work automatically.

I like this pop-up script because it will work quite well even without Javascript enabled and does not require you to enter the href more than once. Worth keeping.

Lost my mobile phone

Today as I was lying in Regents Park when two young girls approached me and my friend pretending to sell something when in fact they just distracted me from protecting my mobile phone which I had bluntly left open. As soon as they left and we check that nothing was stolen I realised that they had stole my mobile phone. I started running after them but very near from where we were there was a road crossing and from there they would have been able to run any direction so it would be impossible for me to catch them.

I have now reported it to the police and I will now shortly phone Orange to render the phone useless and claim my insurance. Hopefully I'll get a new phone from the insurance company but I'm not sure that I can keep the old number. So for a little while now I won't be reachable on my mobile number. Until then use: mail_AT_peterbe_dot_com
