Hey, I was wondering — does anyone know this song?
It's got a softer sound, kind of ethereal. I know the story it portrays, more or less, it's just the title and the lyrics that I'm blanking on. It might be two songs I'm mixing together in my head, even.
Now! Let me tell you what this is about:
We start the song with the image of someone shutting a book and either pressing a flower between the pages or or smudging the ink of the words and ruining them or both. It's got a literary feel, this first few lines.
Now, here's where I think these may be two songs I'm mashing together in my memory:
The second paragraph of the lyrics (or just this song entirely) starts off by picturing an alleyway at night, a cat(?) fleeing from it after being startled, and it implies two people meeting(?) though I can't remember if that's explicitly stated.
The chorus repeats maybe twice, and it's about someone running through a forest and perhaps something burning. A shore (or beach, or general source of water like a river?) is mentioned as well, though I don't know if it's ever made clear that that's where the POV character is running towards or if it's where they're running from.
Someone in the annotations on Genius had a theory that the song was portraying someone (a woman?) meeting her demise and the second verse was her running from him through the forest or murderer burying her (burning her body? throwing it into the source of water?) and then the third was about her in the water and/or drowning and/or just feeling safe in the water? Maybe her trying to drown him from beyond? Sorry, ghat last part is unclear in my mind.
As you can see, this song is very foggy in my memory, but I would love for anyone to give a clue as to where I can listen to it again because I remember that I loved it Circa 2017-2021.
Please help, if you can. If this sounds familiar, feel free to comment on it!

I'm looking for the lyrics to "Where Have You Gone" by Alan Jackson.
