Please help. Sometime in the 90s perhaps, maybe late 80s. It was the same time when Blur, Radio Active Cats, Crash Test Dummies, etc. So it could have been by alternative band, rock ballad era, and whatnot. I don't remember the exact lyrics, while I still can humm how the song goes.
It goes something like
