I'm trying to find a song by a hippie pop group that did covers of old jazz songs (like "Mr. Christopher Columbus sailed the sea without a compass) in the late 60's - early 70's. The song I'm looking for included the lines: "You can knock me up and knock me down and even hit me... black both my eyes but Daddy please don't you leave me. I will love and love and love and have your son, if you'll only try to get along." it was kind of a spoof on old torch songs sung by female singers. Wish I could remember the group's name.
I'm not sure but the song you're looking for kinda sounds like That's When I'll Come Back to You - by Jim Kweskin & The Jug Band They also did a cover of Christopher Columbus , the first song you mentioned
To whomever replied to my question above with the song title "That's When I'll Come Back to You", by Jim Kwezkin and the Jug Band ... THANK YOU! I believe you're absolutely right! :-)
