theres an episode where homer starts to smoke medical marijuana which would likely be california. but there is also the possibility of it being in illinois seeing that theres a city in illinois about 2 hours from springfield called shelbyville
I've thought about that one too but my hope of being observant were shattered when I later saw that they live in a town where there's now water. I can't remember the episode but there's this one time where they zoom out over springfield and all you see is land. Shame I can't remember it exactly but I remember that it meant a big inconsistency.
My conclusion after that was they Matt et al. don't want us to ever find out so I sort of gave up.
But then there's the episode where Lisa talks to the Brazillian boy who says something like "I couldn't write to you because I don't know your state" and Lisa replies "Sure you do. You just have to look for all the clues"
I don't know what makes you think he'd have to be in Cali to smoke pot legally. There are medical marijuana laws in a lot of states including Washington, Oregon...Illinois.
