There was an episode where Homer is teaching Apu(i think apu) about springfield or something(I'm no simpsons expert so correct me if im wrong) and he has a map and points to springfield illinois and says something like "This is where we live." Lisa says that Homer was wrong and right as Bart's(or someone's) head moves in front of the camera, you hear Lisa say something like "That's Springfield." So they don't live in Illinois.
I'm not sure if this was how it went so feel free to correct me.
Springfield is the "Capital of IL", it is a small town. However the "Big City" is Chicago, aka The REAL Capital. It is three hours away. IL has nuclear power. Close access to Wisconsin and camping. We even have "Slacked Jawed Yokels". We have a Shelbyville. We also have Wayne's World and the Bears...sorry your jealous...no need to hate...just accept the facts.
