Highgate Hill

The Bruised Romantic Glee Club
Through these drab suburban windows
Lay the fallout of my dreams
All broken hearts, foolish pride and childish teenage schemes

Beyond the rainy streets and bedgrows
Behind the dark September skies
Hidden clues, secret codes and redezvous

Somewhere in the sepia distance
It all seemed crystal clear

I can see the world from up here
And all that's to fullfill
A piece of sky I claimed as mine
I guess I always will
Where Karl Marx and his manifesto
Sleep alone until
You lay me down beneath the clouds
Up on Highgate hill

As the priest speed reads "Hail Mary's"
And casts her ashes to the ground
There's no more lies
Secrets, truths or alibis
Just a place the story ended
In the place where it began
With hopes and fears
That turn tomorrows into years

Somewhere in the sepia distance
It all seemed crystal clear

I can see the world from up here
And all that's to fullfill
A piece of sky I claimed as mine
I guess I always will
Where Karl Marx and his manifesto
Sleep alone until
You lay me down beneath the clouds
Up on Highgate hill

Like a former life detective
Sifting through our past

Half remembered memories
Unmarked photographs
Poorly stored forensics
A cache of broken hearts

I can see the world from up here
And all that's to fullfill
A piece of sky I claimed as mine
I guess I always will
Where Karl Marx and his manifesto
Sleep alone until
You lay me down beneath the clouds
Up on Highgate hill
