Today as I was lying in Regents Park when two young girls approached me and my friend pretending to sell something when in fact they just distracted me from protecting my mobile phone which I had bluntly left open. As soon as they left and we check that nothing was stolen I realised that they had stole my mobile phone. I started running after them but very near from where we were there was a road crossing and from there they would have been able to run any direction so it would be impossible for me to catch them.
I have now reported it to the police and I will now shortly phone Orange to render the phone useless and claim my insurance. Hopefully I'll get a new phone from the insurance company but I'm not sure that I can keep the old number. So for a little while now I won't be reachable on my mobile number. UPDATE:
I called the Orange customer support number that the police officer gave me. So I did, from home, and after having selected the correct options through the voice menu they disconnect me and say: "Sorry. This service can only be used if calling from an Oranage phone". How stupid is that? It's like having your car stolen and when you drive to the dealership to report it they refuse you unless you drive in the car that was stolen from you. Pisses me right off!
I tried twice; both times the same stupid refusal. A third time I selected to go straight to a customer representative. On my way there the voice menu system asked for me phone number, but when I finally got through they asked me for my name and mobile number again. They said they would cancel the subscription and when I explained about being refused on the customer support system they wouldn't believe me.
Apparently I'm liable for any phone calls made with my phone from the time it was stolen until now when it's been cancelled. I admit that I didn't run to the police office but the nearest police office was closed so I had to go to another one in Holborn where they were very helpful. The police officer was held on queue with the Orange customer support so long that we had to give up and he adviced me to try again later from home.
Point is: DON'T BUY A MOBILE PHONE WITH ORANGE!

i lost my phone last wednesday the 12th when i was in town doing some shopping, i made a couple of calls and i remember putting it back in my bag where i always put it but it must of fallen out somehow because when i got home it wasnt there and i looked everywhere for it and thats when i phoned car phone warehouse up to report it lost.they put a bar on it straight away and told me i had to get a crime number from the police, so i phoned them straight away but tryin to get through was a nightmare,it was either engaged all the time or there was no answer,and you can only phone between 10 and 2,so unfortunately i couldnt get through to them until the monday,so when i finally got my crime number phoned back car phone warehouse to give it to them and me thinking i would then get a new phone,well how wrong was i,they said i would then have to wait a few days for a letter to come through to say whether i could make a claim or not,which i thought was bad anyway because why get insurance if u might not even get a new phone because thats what u pay insurance for,well thats what i thought anyway.then i finally got the letter through today sayin i couldnt make a claim and wouldnt be able to replace my phone,straight away i just felt angry,why couldnt my phone be replaced,so i phoned car phone warehouse up and they werent really that helpful,they just basically said i would still have to pay my bill each month even though i havent got a phone to use and they couldnt do anything else to help me.so this is why i thought i would explain my circumstances on here and to see if i can do anything else because it just doesnt seem right,whats the point in paying insurance each month when if u lose it or its stolen u cant even get it replaced,so as soon as my contracts over i will be leaving car phone warehouse and making sure none of my friends or family get a phone from there.

Go to your bank and cancel the direct debit. Shortly car phone warehouse will be calling you to ask if they could help you with anything to resolve the issue. Don’t continue paying. They are in breach of their contract!

Lisa, report them to the Better Business Bureu! I think its BBB.com or something. You can search for it. But, My freind, Paulina, she had some problems with her phone company, they were ignoring her and hanging up on her for about two months, then she reported them to the BBB people on-line and sprint called her back the very next day, it was a supervisor and they straightened her problem out pronto! Anyone being ripped off should report their providers. Maybe they will then finally start treating customers better.

Nevere ever ever take insurance from any mobile phone company. You need to be mugged in the street and get a crime report to that effect before they will pay out. It is a huge con. Shame on networks selling thier customers this piece of rubbish

Are you thiking: I lost my cell phone ? Well here is what you do: Inmediatelly call your provider and ask them to block it. Make sure you have a serial number to give to your provider. The serial number wich is written in the back of your cell.

Today i lost my second cell. when i lost my first cell, i had made a police complaint and approached Orange Service provider with the complaint but they said they are helpless to trace out the mobile. They can only findout if there were any calls made from that number but that too will be provided only if i am accompanied with a Police officer, the complaint letter isnot sufficient. When i approached the Nokia provider they said they dont have a System in india to tracethe mobile through the IMEI number. So even after all my efforts, nobody could help me. Later i heard that there's some police cell in each city which specially takes care of these cases. I got an email id of such a cell in chennai(though mine waslost in mumbai) but even after repitive mails no response after 3 months.
Now that i lost my second mobile, I again wonder if i will be able to find it out anyway though my last attempt didnot succeed.
Pls let me know if you were abl to find out your mobile then pls guide metoo..

okay ive had a string of bad luck ~ 1st i lost my X460 which i had for over 2 years on the train home last month ~i fel aslp on the train and was holding my phone in my hand...then it was my stop so i quickly jumped off...i must have left it behind ~ spent 3 hours callin it~waitin for the train to return the opposite way and den lookin for it on the train that i was on~calld it many times and found out some young boy had it...it really pissd me off that no one is honest these days!!!...then the next day my boyfriend kindly bought me a E760 which was £120!!!!!!!!~o2 network sent me a new sim card with my old number on it ~ so i was really happy and loved my fone!~~~~~~ and then today...i lost it at the bus stop on the way home......~FOR F*** SAKE~ there's something wrong with me!!!!!! I really hate myself right now....i was sitting down and wen the bus came i stood up and thats how i suspected it fell out~ i took the 1st train back to the bus stop~ only to find some "chav/delinquent/trouble maker type" person sit at the bus stop ~ i askd him if he had seen it and he said no...i dno but i felt as tho he has...~so i searchd around the train station and up and down the road then i went home and rang it~ it was switchd off~ i put a phone and sim lock on it~ so since it's switchd off~they cant use it wen they put it back on...HAHAHA...goddam my boyfriend is really mad at me now~ i hate myself~my clumsiness...i did not dare tell my parents i lost my brand new phone...after just 1 month....

hi apoorva ... u just have to call up to ur service provider and give ur imei number and there will block ur phone .. no one can use ur cell ... but the lastest update is u can get ur stoen mobile.. by downloading a software .. make sure u do it when u buy the new phone

I had lost my cell nokia 3100 pick pocket on my way to office at okhala phase 3,which already had insurance covarge, i had the airtel connection , to get the same number i need to report the complient to police , the police at okhala phase 3 station charge me Rs 200 to make fir , i wont get my phone , insurance coverage and lost Rs 200 for reporting it , if the service provider can simply trace the phone the ime number but they never willing to help their customer , its really sad that in delhi is the most wrost city , where we can not keep our cell safe even our life , i blame the police only they are the real culprit, they encourge people to do crime.
today i report it because my would be lost her mobile today from her room , and if we call they number its ringing , but what to do ? nothing ,
if anyone know how to sort this problem , please advice in this forum

hi tabu .... just find the HEAD OFFICE of air tel & all the service providers in ur town ... take the copy of FIR & original bill and ask them to trace ur phone .... chances r less but atleast u can try ...

Hi Santosh, I, too, have my 6030 stolen. I beleive the only way to track our Mobiles is to report the phone to be stolen to whoever (Nokia or respective Telco Service provider, which is difficult to figure out as to what service provider the robber may be using). If they can find us track the user of the phone, we may be able to deal with those bastards then with the help of law. What do you have to say?

I don't know anyone who has not lost a mobile phone at some time. This means that there are an equal number of lost or stolen phones as owned ones. if all these stolen/lost phones were place in a pile it would probably be as high as the BT tower

Having seen your letter and phone no. i immediately contacted you on 5th May. 07 about the lost of my mobile. At that time you picked up your phone immediaely advised me to send photocopy of the bill and FIR copy. ON 7th May, 07 i sent the required doucments. I again contacted you on 10 May, 07 you informed me that the papers have been received by you. After that I am trying to contact you over phone but you are not picking up my phone. In the mean time i have contacted about 400-500 times but you did not respond me. You put my mobile and land line no. in Call filter software in your mobile so that that the caller cannot contact you.I also sent you 8-10 message to pick up your mobile but all in vain. I could not know if you had to do so why you given your message on internet and you are making follish so many peoples. This is not fare.

These comments are incredible :) If you've lost your mobile phone, log the theft with your local police force, then contact the operator to have the SIM blocked. You'll likely never see your handset again, so deal with it; there's no real magic bullet to "finding" a stolen mobile again.
And to all those posting their IMEI here, congrats, your handset has likely just been cloned, well done!

i too lost my mobile in bus in chennai..
i too have all the details of last five calls made from my mobile...but the fellow who found my mobile had removed my sim immeditely and using some other sim card in my mobile....
i explained in airtel office they gave me new sim card with my previous number but still searching for my mobile
for this type of cases the solution i received is quite expensive...
to find a lost mobile submit the police case and the same as to be submit to all the mobile companies head office like airtel,aircel,bsnl....etc when the person call from our mobile set with his/her own sim card then the imei number will be known to the mobile sim companies ... so they can contact you and tell the number from which number they got this imei number with that number we have to trace the address and finally story ends....
if you will follow this expensive method we hope we receive mobile sets

I've had the displeasure to have my phone nicked a little while back as well and the worst part of that happening is that you lose all ur contacts in the phonebook along with sms, calendar, pics, etc, etc. You lose too much personal info.....
Lucky for me a friend told me to backup all my phone's info on zyb (www.zyb.com). Now all my contacts, calendar and SMS (text messages) are safely stored and can be retrieved to any phone whenever i want. You wanna know the best part about it is that its freeeeeeee!
